Fibromyalgia Exercises
Even though most people suffering from Fibromyalgia are in a lot of pain, exercise can be a good way to both relieve pain and increase your energy. This can make the difference between feeling tired and lethargic, and feeling full of energy.
Most people think that they have to exercise excessively to see any benefit, but the truth of the matter is that any consistent exercise routine can make a difference. The key is to start out slowly and then move on from there.
A good place to start is walking. The act of walking not only loosens the joints, but involves most of the muscles in the body, making it a valuable activity. Add that with the opportunity to get outside and away from your home, you end up with an exercise that not only makes you feel better physically, but also mentally as well.
Other types of exercises that work well include yoga, weight training (don’t overdo it on the size of the weights that you lift) and Tai Chi. The idea is to get blood and oxygen flowing through your body to increase your energy level and your fitness. The following is an example of a yoga pose specifically designed for Fibromyalgia patients:
Moderation is Key
Many people assume that their body will be able to perform at the same level as it did before they had Fibromyalgia syndrome and that is a poor assumption. Since your body is not as flexible and may be in a lot more pain than it has ever been, you need to make sure to take it easy. You don’t need to run a marathon or anything, but what is important is that you are making an effort to exercise each day. By taking the time each day (and only doing a little at a time) you are paving the road to living a more fulfilling life, free of all the pain associated with your condition.
